Our Story
In early 2020, Nicole signed up for a beekeeping 101 class after reading a children’s book about how crucial the honeybee population is to human existence. Not wanting to be left out of something interesting, her husband Matt signed up with her.
After a little over a month of night classes, Nicole partnered with Under Armour coworkers who shared the vision of sustaining the honey bee population and saw how their work could benefit the Locust Point Community Gardens, and serve as an educational tool in the neighborhood. In a historic community where industry and brilliant products are pumped out regularly, the bees fit right in.
The hives at locust point serve as an educational tool, and have been a source of life in the community garden.
Nicole and Matt have cared diligently for the hives for over a year, and hope their existence helps bring the neighborhood and it’s’ visitors inspiration and motivation to become a friend to Mother Nature. If you’re ever in the neighborhood and see them working, don’t be afraid to say hello!
The greatest contribution of bees and other pollinators is the pollination of nearly three quarters of the plants that produce 90% of the world's food. A third of the world's food production depends on bees and pollination - that’s every third spoonful of food!
